Ingredients
- 2 cups cream or milk
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 2 lb/1kg potatoes (2 sweet potatoes, 2-3 white potatoes) peeled & thinly sliced
- 4-8 oz shredded cheese (Gruyere, cheddar, or your favorite to taste)
- 2 tbsp parsley
Preparation
- Butter a shallow (2 quart) baking dish.
- Sprinkle some minced garlic in the bottom of the dish. Make a layer of 1/2 of the potatoes. Top with 1/2 of the sliced onions & more garlic. Also 1/2 of the spices. (Optional, you can add some cheese at this layer as well)
- Make another layer with the rest of the potatoes and again top with the sliced onion and any remaining garlic. Sprinkle with spices. Pour on the milk carefully. Then top with grated cheese.
- Bake at 350-375F for 60 to 75 minutes. Cheese will brown on the top to form the “Gratin”. Bake until potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife.
